Just an update from the other day when I posted about an article I had posted in the local paper. Its gone up online and you can find it here if you missed it, but surely you didnt as you hang on our every word right. Right?
Hey there guys just a little update. I had a piece placed into the EducationNow section of the Adelaide Advertiser! Check out Pg. 30 for my article called “The tiny bugs that keep us healthy”. Its an article on the history of probiotics and the transition from its use as a preventative therapy to an active treatment. Anyways, I’ll link to it when it goes up on the AdelaideNow website.
Recently this article was published in The Adelaide Advertiser (30-3-2010). I wanted to re-post it here with some extra bits and pieces because it generated some very nice feedback from people looking for more information. I think it’s a really interesting idea that deserves more research but at the same time I do not want to come off as peddling a new ‘miracle cure’. If you are interested I have included some references at the end where you can find and read the info yourself. Finally, while Thomas and I do sometimes carry around stethoscopes and I have a manual Sphygmomanometer, we are not doctors or medical experts. We are just biology nerds with an internet connection.
Mrs. Towill rang me up at work and also thought it necessary to send me about 50 pages of her own research, including: some highlighted and annotated interpretations of The Quran (specifically bits concerning jihad and hypocrisy); photocopies of other science-related articles (concerning fish sex changes and pain pill addiction); photocopied letters from the office of The Hon Jane Lomax Smith MP and Sir Mark Oliphant (from 1986); and some pages on phycho (sic) physics. I now present to you, the reader, her annotated copy of my article. It’s fairly amazing. You can download it as a .pdf down the bottom of this article or just read on pass the jump for a typed out copy.
I don’t think Thomas or I have ever pretended to be good people so it should come as no surprise that if an opportunity for us to promote ourselves comes along we will grab it with both hands.
The Advertiser, Adelaide’s daily newspaper, has started to upload a column found in a weekly liftout. Both of us have written for this column, called ‘Can You Believe It?!’, and if you are interested move past the jump and follow the links to some of our pieces that have found thier way online.
Edit 24/3/10 They just moved to a new home
Edit 5/03/10 – It would seem these have all been taken down. Sorry bout that. Not my call though.
